DESCRIPTION:LEARN TO SAVE A LIFE! \n\nThis course is for anyone in the community ages 13 and up.\nA 2-year digital certification\, issued through the Health and Safety Institute (HSI®)\, will be provided upon successful completion of the course.\nAll medical courses are taught by EMTs and/or Paramedics with decades of real-world experience.\n\nDelivery Method(s): Classroom Lecture\, Practical Training\, and Performance Evaluations \nMinimum Class Size: 3 \nMaximum Class Size: 20 \n  \nNotice \nThis HSI® training program has been approved by the HSI® Medical Advisory Board and reviewed by the HSI® Advisory Council. It reflects the latest first aid and resuscitation science and treatment recommendations of the 2020 International Consensus on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC) Science with Treatment Recommendations (CoSTR) and the 2020 International Consensus on First Aid Science with Treatment Recommendations published by the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR). It conforms with the 2020 American Heart Association®\, Inc. (AHA) Guidelines Update for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC)\, and the 2020 AHA and American Red Cross (ARC) Focused Update for First Aid the annual Guidelines Update. \nThis HSI® Training Program incorporates AHA recommendations regarding resuscitation education science and reflects established models\, theories\, and principles of instructional design and training development that have been integrated into HSI® training program brands for more than 40 years. \nHSI is a nationally accredited organization of the Commission on Accreditation of Pre-Hospital Continuing Education (CAPCE) and nationally approved by the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) Program Approval for Continuing Education (PACE) as a continuing dental education (CDE) provider. \n  \nLearning Objectives \nThe goal of this training program is for trainees to gain or improve knowledge and skill proficiency in first aid\, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)\, and the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED). This course reflects the latest resuscitation science and treatment recommendations published by the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR)\, and it conforms with the 2020 American Heart Association (AHA) Guidelines Update for CPR and ECC and the annual Guidelines Update. \nFollowing this course\, trainees should be able to: \n\nSummarize the basic legal concepts (e.g.\, Good Samaritan law) that apply to providing first aid\, performing CPR\, and/or using an AED;\nRecognize the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and a safety-oriented home and workplace culture;\nRecognize the rescuer’s role\, responsibilities\, and priorities;\nUnderstand their applicable level of training and the importance of not exceeding it during a medical emergency;\nRecognize the main elements to the procedure for CPR and the use of an AED;\nRecognize the elements of high-quality CPR and their importance on survival from cardiac arrest;\nIdentify the links in the sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) “Chain of Survival”;\nPerform a rapid patient assessment;\nRecognize when high-quality CPR is required;\nDescribe and correctly demonstrate how to perform high-quality CPR\, including providing effective rescue breaths;\nDescribe and correctly demonstrate how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED);\nDescribe and correctly demonstrate how to provide treatment for a choking patient;\nProperly select the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE);\nCorrectly demonstrate the removal of contaminated personal protective equipment (PPE);\nDescribe and correctly demonstrate various adult first aid procedures;\nDescribe how to recognize and provide first aid treatment for injury\, medical\, and environmental emergencies;\nCorrectly demonstrate how to control severe external bleeding;\nCorrectly demonstrate how to use an epinephrine autoinjector (e.g.\, EpiPen®);\nRecognize opioid-related emergencies and how to administer intranasal Naloxone (Narcan®);*\nUnderstand and be able to apply universal precautions; and\nWork both independently and as a team during medical emergencies\, understanding the importance of good team dynamics.\n\n*This topic is optional based on site-specific needs \n  \nCourse Outline \nGeneral \n\nScene safety and assessment\nBloodborne pathogens and other potentially infectious materials (OPIMs)\nUniversal precautions\nLay rescuer responsibilities\nGaining consent from the patient\nGood Samaritan laws and other legal issues\nPersonal protective equipment (PPE)\nDecontamination\nEmergency action plans (EAPs)\nRecovery position\nOptional: Opioid-associated life-threatening emergencies*\nDebriefings for rescuers\n\nCardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) \n\nCPR-related statistics and data\nHeart attack vs. Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA)\nAdult CPR\nSCA “Chain of Survival”\nAutomated external defibrillators (AEDs)\nSpecial CPR considerations\n\nFirst Aid \n\nPrinciples of responding to a medical emergency\nPatient assessments and triage\nNosebleeds\nTooth injuries\nChoking\nSevere bleeding control\nShock\nAmputations\nImpaled objects\nOpen chest injuries\nOpen abdominal injuries\nSpinal injuries\nHead injuries (including concussions)\nStrains and sprains\nDislocations\nFractures\nBurns\nStrokes\nDiabetic emergencies\nSeizures\nAsthma\nAllergic reactions\nPoisoning\nBites and stings\nHeat-related illnesses\nCold-related illnesses\n\nTo register\, call/text (270) 670-4718 or email us at cpr@arrowsafetyus.com.
